Michael Tummillo, Workplace Chaplain,
Founder of The Church @ Work (TCAW)

Training and Encouraging the Body of Christ in the Workforce.
A job is a ministry every bit as important as that which takes place from any pulpit.
Let's talk!

Why diversify?

Gold is up to $1663.80/oz today. That's up $5.70 from Friday, literally growing in the pockets of those who possess it.

Well, that's just peachy. Gold is a great way to hold a great deal of wealth in a small space. So, get some! In times of turmoil, the price of gold could go to $3.000/oz or greater!

Man, we'd better hope NOT!

Why do I say that? Since the value of gold rises with inflation, if the value ever got that high, at that point, the dollar would, at that point, be worthless. Those who didn't have the foresight to diversify and protect themselves economically from such a drastic dollar down-turn, would certainly not be able to afford gold. Furthermore, those HOLDING gold would not even be able to sell it. There's a line from an old song from during the Jesus Movement that went "a loaf of bread would buy a bag of gold." Yes, you can't eat gold, folks!

Another line from that same song was this: "I wish we'd all been ready."

If all you held was gold, who could you trade with? Where silver and gold are concerned, true, you can’t eat it. However, in Zimbabwe and in Argentina, in the midst of complete meltdown and monetary chaos, when people were shooting each other in the streets for food, gold and silver became king, and still are. With these things in mind, this is all the more reason to develop a bartering mentality. Have a plan... a plan that includes, but isn't limited to, gold and silver.

Consider the POTENTIAL problems that could come upon us, things that have already happened in other nations. Invest in diverse things. Gold and silver, grain, the FOREX*. Below is a list of the best bartering items and tradable skills.
*I recommend you contact Fulton Sheen, fsheen@gmail.com. He's helped us TREMENDOUSLY!

"Speculative investing" means we are speculating about what the future will bring. Things CAN go wrong. The wheels CAN fall off. I can hear my mom saying, "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst." Good advice. That way you won't be shocked. You can sleep peacefully because you have a plan. PREPARATION is key. Anything geopolitical, economic, weather-related, social unrest... one investment failing because of any of these will cause you to revert to Plan B.

That is, if you HAVE a Plan B.

So, be cautious. Be ready to move quickly on any profit you make. Example, after an RV, don't take a cruise! Instead, turn that money into OTHER options besides the American Dollar. In other words, consider the RV "seed money." Plant those seeds immediately!

But what if there IS no RV? After all, Iraq is a tinder box and everybody's striking matches all the time. Civil war, an earthquake... anything could happen. With a "no RV" mindset, are you exchanging your cash for gold? Silver? Grain? The Forex?

I talk to MANY people and it saddens me how many have put all their eggs in the IQD basket. Doing so isn't an expression of faith; it's presumption. Frankly, it's foolishness. Wisdom is screaming that we diversify and prepare. I hope this helps!

Every blessing,
Michael Tummillo

Concerned about YOUR elderly Loved One?

My name is Michael Tummillo and I'm a Workplace Chaplain in Texas. My purpose is to encourage and disciple Christians in the workforce, making them aware that each of them has a ministry that's every bit as important as anything that goes on within an institutional church building.

For the past 6 years, I have been working with the employees of nursing homes and an assisted living facility. Typically, an Employee will either call, text, an eMail me to let me know of some situation that needs prayer or where they might need advice.

Lately, I've been doing a great deal of reading as I've researched the greatest needs of the elderly and their loved ones. One of the articles I read had to do with making the difficult decision of knowing when an elderly person is actually ready for Assisted Living or Nursing Home care. One of those tell-tale signs had to do with physical injuries resulting from falling and hurting themselves.

Yesterday, I was visiting an elderly man who lives alone in cabin in the woods. I had offered to do some carpentry work inside and tended to a weed problem he had in his rose garden. A robust ex-Marine and cowboy, he is a trained psychologist who still loves riding horses. A spiritual man who enjoys writing and reading, he considers the solitude of living in seclusion "an occupational necessity."

At one point, he and I were walking on the property and, as we approached the house, he tripped on a stone and sailed, face-first, onto a cement slab. It was terrible! He was in a great deal of pain, lying still on the ground, moaning, bleeding from his right eyebrow and the back of his hand. I'm sure his knees were skinned as well.

When I finally helped him get off the ground, he went straight to the bathroom to clean his wounds. When he was finished, we sat down across from each other and he called my attention to something I had not yet noticed: a cut under his chin, a scab on the bridge of his nose and a "strawberry" on his forehead. He told me these came from a fall he'd had a week earlier when he was leaning over the commode, feeling nauseated. That was the last thing he remembered, waking up between the toilet and the sink - a very small space - his blood pooled under his head. I could still see the slight blood stain on the tile.

A single man with no family, I left him later wondering 'what's next?' I decided I would be visiting him more often.

Chances are, in a nation with an aging population, someone reading this now has had a similar experience with an elderly loved one. Maybe it's not merely cuts and bruises but perhaps their fine-trimmed yard is suddenly overgrown and their neat-as-a-pin house has become a mess. Every time you see them, are they in their pajamas? Is their hair always a mess? Are there any dirty dishes in the sink? Anything to eat in the fridge? Have they made mistakes in regard to their meds? Do they talk about being lonely, hearing voices or seeing people, especially deceased loved ones?

If you need advice regarding long term care, allow me to recommend Park Plaza Nursing Home and Country Club Retirement Community - both in Whitney, Texas, "The Get-Away Capital of Texas!" - and Azalea Trail Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in beautiful Grand Saline, Texas. The staff in both these facilities are great people and the leadership are godly Christians who really care about their Residents and do things by the book. By the way, these homes have a new "On-Call" 800 Help-Line designed to assist anyone who calls, no matter where you call from. Check it out!

I hope this message will help somebody when it comes to their long term care decision.

Every blessing,
Michael Tummillo

My name is Michael Tummillo. I'm a Workplace Chaplain and Founder of The Church @ Work (TCAW).

The mission of TCAW is to Disciple and Encourage people in the Workforce. If you have a job, you have a ministry. Hurting, lonely, disillusioned people spend over half our lives at work, trading time for money. If we who spend most of our time there aren't reaching them, who will?

Many Followers of Christ have felt God's call upon their lives yet live a frustrated existence thinking all they're good for is dropping a portion of their paycheck in the offering.

There's MORE!

MUCH MORE!

Jesus did the majority of His ministry in the Marketplace. He came as our example. With that in mind, I'm at your service.

How can I bless you?

Whether it's prayer, pastoral counsel, visiting the sick,
speaking to church groups, schools and at conferences,
I am available.

I'm here to help you.

As you open your pocketbooks when the next natural disaster strikes, please keep these facts in mind:
The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans' salary for the year was $951,957 plus expenses.
The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $675,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.
UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,900,000 per year (158K) per month, plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE. Less than 5 cents (4.4 cents) per donated dollar goes to the cause.
ON THE OTHER HAND, consider what THESE servants earn...
The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.
The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Disabled American Veterans National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary.  Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Military Order of Purple Hearts National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary.  Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Vietnam Veterans Association National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary.  Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
Oh, and despite what many people believe, in case you're looking for places to sow seed, most ministers don't earn much money at all.
I can assure you, MORE natural disasters are coming. Let's purpose in our hearts to MAXIMIZE the impact of our money.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing!

WHAT'S YOURS?

What's
YOUR
Love Language?

I have been utilizing Dr. Gary Chapman's  book "The 5 Love languages" in Pre-Marital and Relational Pastoral Counseling for about 13 years. Many of those couples who APPLY this book to their relationships have experienced a marriage they always wanted.

But it all starts with "The Assessment."

Click the LINK below.
Both partners should complete The Assessment that applies to them.
If you'd like some input afterward, let's talk!

These 10 tips can help get Beginner Preppers on the right track to meeting their preparedness needs:

1. Do something everyday, no matter how small. Get more food, an extra tool, more ammo, whatever. Learn a new skill like how to purify water or cook a gourmet meal using an old tire and a piece of broken glass.
2. List goals and develop plans. This gives you something to look back on so you can see where you need to go.
3. Study, learn the skills needed to be self-sufficient: Gardening, canning, hunting, water purification and home defense. The two most violent phases of any nation are 1) When it's being established and 2) When it starts to deteriorate.
4. Get a survival book. I recommend Survival Center's 3 DVD and book, "Basic Preparedness Home Study Course.” Don't just buy it... READ AND WATCH IT! After an EMP wipes out power is NOT the time to try and watch a DVD!
5. Get started. No matter what you hear, there is no 'best gun'. You can spend the rest of your life searching for the ultimate bug-out-bag. Basic food and water for one week is a good place to start. Priority #1: Water Filtration. Without water, you're dead.
6. Whatever you do, DON’T go into debt getting prepared. Find some other way. Sell something. Trade something. Work extra hours. Have a Prepper Garage Sale. Pay with cash whenever possible.
7. Have back-ups for your back-ups. Have a Plan A, Plan B, and then Plan C. A guy I know dodged a bullet during a Texas tornado. While other units were destroyed, his was untouched. But what if there had been a direct hit? All his Prepper stuff was inside! Why not divide what you have into each car AND the house? Your mom's shed across town? Your abandoned camper at the lake house? Your office? Think people!
8. Break preparedness down into smaller chunks: water, food, security, health/hygiene, barter. Then, break each of those down by levels of preparation. This makes it less overwhelming.
9. NEWBIE? START TODAY! Do SOMETHING every day, whether it’s buying, gathering, or reading. My wife and I started over two years ago with ten extra cans of soup every time we shopped. Later, we got a Sam's card and bought some bulk stuff. Now, let's just say we sleep peacefully and confidently.
10. Don’t announce what you're doing to the world, unless you really don't care what people think about you. Personally, I'm trying to save lives. I'm sure Noah's neighbors mocked him while he was ark-building, too.

Remember this: God, guns, gold, groceries... and water.

ABORTION: One Man's Perspective
(Parental discretion advised)

Please forgive me if you find any part of the following message offensive. I realizebecause so many people who read these messages from so many diverse backgrounds, there will be those who have conflicting views regarding the controversial subject of
abortion. There will be people of both genders who have been involved with an abortion in some way. They will have their viewpoints and I'm entitled to mine as well.

To these, I have this to say:
IF abortion is murder as some say, and certainly we all acknowledge murder as a sin, Jesus is the only alternative for having those sins forgiven just as I've had my sins forgiven, for mine are no less offensive to a Holy God than anybody else's. We've all sinned and have fallen short of His glory, Scripture tells us.

So, whether we're talking about abortion, rape, murder, lust, greed, rage, gossip, doubt, unbelief...it's all sin and only the blood of Christ could save any of us.

To those who believe abortion is murder and is, therefore, wrong, I have this to say:
I'll stand by as you cast that first stone. People who hurt people are hurting people and need our compassion, mercy and help, NOT a condemning finger pointed in their faces. If you feel compelled to fight for those who cannot defend themselves, don't blow up an abortion clinic or handcuff yourself to one of its doors. Don't carry a bigger sign or yell louder than those across the line. Instead, give them water and set up a portable pavilion to provide shade. Love them and see if it doesn't open up the door for intelligent dialogue and ministry opportunities.

They'll know we are Christians by our love. Even our enemies will recognize that. Simply put, what would Jesus do? He died for His enemies.

To those considering abortion, I have this to say:                     I'm sure you'd agree that in order to make good decisions, we need good information. Agreed? Please consider, and even pray about, the information contained herein. Go to Pro-Life as well as Pro-Abortion websites, bearing in mind that they cannot both be right. People are either lying to you or telling you the truth. That's the way life is. If a statement isn't true, what else can it be but a lie? Right? There are no half-truths or white lies. Something is either
true or false, despite today's culture of resisting absolutes.

Here's a tip: check out the leadership first, the founders from which a group's philosophy flows; its roots. For example, Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. Her first handbook, published for adolescents in 1915 and entitled, "What Every Boy and Girl
Should Know," featured a startling afterward in which Sanger wrote: "It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children
whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them."

Personally, I cannot side with a woman with a philosophy so contrary to what Jesus Christ taught. You can make your own decision in this same way.

Here's my story.
For 14 years, I was not at liberty to discuss the details of which you are about to read.

The contents of this article are now free to be written and spoken about openly with permission in recognition of the fact that others my be helped. Hopefully, many others.

I became a serious Christian in February of 1987. Prior to that, I had merely "played" at being one and went through my own series of self-righteous, often sickeningly pious, religious motions. By all outward appearances, I was a better "Christian" than most Christians. Fact was, I was married to my work as an Art Director in the crazy world of Dallas advertising. I went in early and came home late and, though I was faithful to my wife, I shared more of my soul - my mind, will and emotions - with the ladies at work than I did with my own spouse, the mother of my 3 small children. It's called "Spiritual Adultery" - sharing more of me with other women than I should have. My spouse got second-best from me. Maybe even third.

One Saturday afternoon, my wife came home from running errands and tearfully told me an awful truth: she had become pregnant through an extramarital affair she was having. She had gone out to have an abortion that morning - an abortion that her lover was "kindly" willing to pay for - but she simply could not go through with it. While both of us cried, I forgave her as I had already made up my mind long ago that abortion was wrong. More on that in a moment.

A few weekends later, she took our three children to visit their grandmother out of town, leaving me all alone with my thoughts. What I'm about to tell you are the ONLY details that I can actually recall regarding a telephone call I had late that night with a Catholic priest whom I had apparently gotten out of bed to take my call. I needed to talk to somebody - ANYBODY. Having been raised a Catholic, calling a Catholic Church out of the Dallas,
Texas phone book was all that felt comfortable to me at the moment.

I couldn't locate that priest again in a million years if I had to. He may have been an angel for all I know. One thing I'm sure of is that God gave him the exact words to speak to me at that precise moment in time. After sharing with him the details, plus the fact that I had since decided to raise the child as my own, he sighed and said, "Wow, Mike...you know, Joseph raised a baby that wasn't his...."

Friends, that was ALL I needed to hear. I knew in that instant that, with God's help, I could manage. I do not recall any more of the conversation. I do not recall even saying 'thanks' or 'good-night.' What I DO recall was turning slowly around to see who was in the room with me as I suddenly felt a very distinct presence.

As I turned back around, I felt the Lord's arms wrap around me in a warm, reassuring embrace.

I was experiencing a peace that passed all understanding.

Today, that baby girl woman, attending nursing school, with two terrific children who call me "Grampa Mike." I am very proud of her and those kids. Though her mother eventually divorced me while the child was an infant, eventually re-marrying a completely
different man, when she was 16, she and I agreed it was time to tell the young lady - our daughter - the truth. Since then, she has formed a relationship with her birth-father, his wife and her  sisters. By God's grace, the best has been made of an absolutely trying situation. One look at her and anybody would wonder how anyone could - even for a minute - have considered abortion as a viable option.

What can Christians do?
I have resisted the urge to broadcast regarding this topic for a long time. Too political. Too emotional. Not spiritual enough. But the Lord has apparently given me the green light. I HAD to obey.

I could never have aborted the wonderful, beautiful young woman I raised from birth and know and love today. I've given her my name and she is my daughter and she calls me 'dad'. I can't imagine life without her.

I have had lunch with the former Evangelist-turned-talk-show-host of Life Today, James Roberson, himself a product of the rape of his mother. His ministry is feeding and clothing neglected children across the world. Millions of children have been touched by this man's ministry.

In the early days of Christianity, when Roman orgies were often producing unwanted children, these newborns were often tossed over the wall to be devoured by wild animals or to die of exposure. It was Christians who would gather up these children and
raise them to know and love God.

Moses was a baby who was saved as a result of a woman with a heart of compassion, and he eventually led the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Jesus himself was raised by Joseph, a man who was not His biological father. All of us who have come out of darkness and into the glorious light of Christ have received the Spirit of adoption and are now the sons of God, co-laborers with Christ, heirs to the throne, and brothers of Jesus.

Raise a baby that is not your own?

Assist those who do?

In these dark and evil days, where 4500 babies are being aborted EVERY DAY, such situations are more and more likely to occur and touch many of our lives. There IS another way - not a politically correct way, but a CHRISTIAN way - of looking at these situations. As always, as in every instance, there remain no natural answers to this spiritual problem. We cannot lobby, vote or protest these problems away.

People deserve more from the Church than that. They need what we Christians claim to have; the answer to all the world's problems.

They need Jesus.

Once again, the Body of Christ, this enormous Army of God, must resist the urge to merely REACT to a situation. Rather, we must ACT according to the example our Savior has set for us. Our job description is simply this: Love One Another. "Love" is an action word.

Let's all DO something, shall we? At the very LEAST, you can forward this message, can't you?

(Prov 31:8) "Open your mouth for those who cannot speak, and for the rights of those who are left without help."

Adoption
You may decide to place your child for adoption. Each year over 50,000 women in America make this choice. This loving decision is often made by women who first thought abortion was their only way out.

Help Is Available
Facing an unexpected pregnancy can seem overwhelming. That is why knowing where to go for help is important. Talk to someone you can trust - your partner, your parents, a pastor, a priest or perhaps a good friend. Also, the caring people at your local pregnancy center are available to help you through this difficult time.

A LETTER TO PASTORS

Dear Pastor,
For some time now I have felt the need to write you this letter. Let me first say I want to thank you for what you do in helping me learn more about how I can grow in my relationship with Jesus. Your contributions to my spiritual life are SO important and are greatly appreciated.

There are times I think you and I may have a wrong view of each other. For instance, as a person in the workforce, I sometimes feel I may be valued for the financial contributions I can make, or the ministry position I can fill at church. Frankly, Pastor, this makes me feel disconnected and de-valued. I know God has created me for a unique purpose, and like you, He has called me for a special ministry, but I don’t always sense it is a ministry “at church”. I know God has given me spiritual gifts and I believe that we should all contribute to the Body of Christ, inside and outside the church buildings. Sometimes I feel the church spends more time equipping me to do the church’s ministry instead of the ministry GOD has for me . I love our church and I really have a heart to serve. Can you help me reconcile these feelings? I want to understand and fulfill my purpose, my life ministry.

God has begun to show me something very important: My work IS my ministry. I feel God has “called” me to be a minister in the workplace, in the same way He has called you to be a Pastor. I really see my ministry at work as an extension of your ministry and an extension of our church. But churches don’t often discuss ministry in this fashion, and sometimes I sense my ministry at the workplace does not seem to fit the mission and philosophy of ministry in the church. You see, I believe my ministry is in the workplace to my co-workers who have never been inside a church building, and may never attend. They don’t really relate to anything about church so our primary hope of reaching them is through people like me, ministering at work – out in the world. I may be the only “Jesus” they ever see. Pastor, I wish you could see the people here at work. They are so open to talking about spiritual things these days. ANd they're hurting terribly.

As I read the Bible, it seems like Jesus spent most of his time reaching people in the marketplace. It seems obvious this is where he found most of the people. You have taught me to follow His example. I am finally beginning to understand what you have taught us from Ephesians 4:11-12.  “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry”.  I agree with you that, as my Pastor, God has assigned you the responsibility to equip me for “the work of the ministry.” God has revealed to me my greatest ministry is at work, the place I spend most of my life. I need your help with training so that I can fulfill my “election” and calling to my ministry. Maybe we could all use more Biblical teaching about how we are ALL ministers and how we are to respond to this ministry assignment in this vast, untapped mission field.

Pastor, I've read that many of the revivals and awakenings that have taken place started in the marketplace. Revivals like the one that started in 1858 in New York and spread across the country began because of the faithfulness of a person in the marketplace. Near Wall Street, Jeremiah Lanphier started holding a noon-day prayer meeting for working people in 1857. That was the beginning of the entire movement that resulted in the greatest spiritual awakening in America. Over one million people were converted. I discovered that this man’s church equipped him and commissioned him to do this. Many believe the same thing is beginning today. Henry Blackaby recently wrote, “…in the Bible, most of the activity of God that changed society was done in the workplace and not in the church…”

Since we spend 70% of our waking hours in the workplace, it is vital that we discern how God wants us to use all this time and workplace opportunity rubbing shoulders with the lost and hurting. We desire to understand Biblical principles about our work, and how we can relate to these spiritually hungry people in our workplace so that we can ultimately introduce them to Jesus, before we can ever expect to equip them in our churches.

Would you consider teaching us to become effective ministers at work? Not as a bolt-on evangelism program, but as a major part of training and equipping for our important workplace ministries. We need to grasp this reality personally - that our relationship with God is not separate from our “work”.  Those of us in the workplace desire your help, affirmation, and endorsement so we can all fulfill our ministries. Maybe you could even consider commissioning those of us that are ready as fellow ministers in the workplace. Wouldn’t it be great if members of our church would see themselves as “on a mission at work” - Christians taking their position of spiritual authority in the workplace? Just think of the impact the members of our church could make. This would be true multiplication!

Pastor, I know you have a desire to advance God's Kingdom. If we shared your vision and we were committed to reaching the largest mission field in the world – our workplaces - just think what could be done. Wow! What could God do through an army of excited, motivated workplace Christians accountable to the local church as workplace ministers? We might really begin to fulfill the great commission in a new, revolutionary way.

Please Pastor, train us and release us! I love you and appreciate all that you do. I hope together we can reach the people in our community's workforce.

Very truly yours,
Millions of Church Members

Dr. Henry Blackaby said...
“The people who go out into the workplace are The Church.  The pastor needs to read his congregation and see where they are spiritually, see where they are physically. Then ask God, ‘How do I organize the church to help equip members to function where God has put them in the marketplace?’ ”
